We did it... The first edition of the Karol Jabłoński Cup has come to the end. As an organizer I'm a bit unsatisfied since I had high hopes that the trophy would stay in Suwałki, especially as in the semifinal there were three crews from Suwałki and only one from Giżycko. However, after an exiting final and fight to the very end a clear winner emerged: the crew of Krzysztof Małecki i Mikołaj Mickiewicz from Giżycko (current world champions in the Cadet class).

The first edition of the Karol Jabłoński Cup was an enormous success with good weather and numerous spectators. The regatta was enthusiastically received by competitors, parents, as well as spectators. Within two days we managed to hold 27 short but spectacular races. We witnessed a lot of surprises when underdog sailors eliminated competitors from the top of the Polish Cup.

A case in point was 13 year old Bartek Waszkiewicz who in the first round eliminated older Marcin Komosiński representing MOS Pisz club, a sliver medalist of the Polish Championship (OOM). Even the overall winner of the Cup had races when he conceded victory to theoretically weaker sailors. In the final, nonetheless, he confirmed his excellent shape with a 2:1 victory over our best Suwałki crew of Maciek Kamiński i Szymon Ostrowski. The regatta in a match racing formula (a one to one race) is new for Cadet class competitors. Thanks to lectures of Ms Dorota Michalczyk, who was an arbiter, every racer gained new experiences and next year we are going to see tooth and nail fight for the Cup comeback to Suwałki!
