Seventeen match races, one oldboy race, several football matches and a dozens of climbs to the top of a sports hall (OSiR), summarizes the first regatta day. Sun and wind were ordered in advance, like every year, so challenger races went smoothly and made for a great show.
The sports level of this year eliminations was quite high, Ms Dorota as the Arbiter had plenty of work. We could watch riveting match race battles with well thought out tactics and pre-start strategy, which is a good sign for the future. As far as results are concerned there weren't major surprises, maybe except for Bartek, who conceded victory to younger Maciek, and in the end it was Maciek with Erik who qualified to a small final and managed to be 3rd in the challenger regatta. As one could predict, Maciek with Szymon and Karol with Paweł made it to the final. However, we won't know till tomorrow who will have another chance to fight for the title, to two wins, with last year world champions Krzysiek and Mikołaj. After competitors had battled it out, older sailors had their chance to compete. The start list for the Oldboy race contained FIFTEEN COMPETITORS! It took us over two hours to dust off and rig up the last available equipment so that everyone could have their boat. At 5pm wind lost its force and in quite demanding conditions we held this fascinating race. Ms Dorota, and the only female racer, beat all the men confirming she was in awesome shape! To help you envisage the situation better when I was crossing the finish line Ms Dorota was already on land drinking coffee, and I still wasn't the last but fifth.
